Legally Blonde

I saw the first 30 minutes of this awhile and then got sick and had to leave. With my parents in town I had no choice but to go back for more, and it absolutely delighted my Mom, my Dad stayed awake and these two things delighted me.

What can I say that you wouldn't already guess? The main song which comes back in a reprise at the end is "Oh my God, Oh my God, you guys..." It's pink. It's blonde. It moves around a lot. And, it just finished being shot for MTV. I think that's enough to know.

And, yet, it still wasn't the biggest train wreck I've seen on Broadway this year. Not by a long shot. It had its moments, both good and bad. It was a bit shrieky and chaotic. But, it also had a few redemptive moments. "Is he gay or European?" was a hit in the second act.

And, for a certain segment of the population, this is exactly what a Broadway show should be. It's not for me. It did follow a Broadway formula and in that way delivered well enough. The book wasn't too bad. The music was fine enough. It does well with a younger, female crowd certainly, but as far as a big production Broadway show it is what it is.

I don't think I have anything to add which has not already been said or presupposed. It wasn't thought provoking. It didn't go deep or hit hard, but my Dad wasn't the only one who stayed awake. I stayed awake, too.
